SoulePhix

Classic  jazz, blues & Latin  lounge  music

I recently spent a few intensely satisfying hours at Clockright Studio, where I teamed up once again with the wizard himself—producer Jason Richard—to remaster three more jazz classics. That brings the total to six, and I am well on my way to having all that I need to complete the vinyl LP. There’s something about hearing an old tune get the royal treatment that makes you fall in love with it all over again. I really appreciate the talent that the many collaborative artists brought to each individual song! Jason is not just a great producer, but he is a talented sound engineer as well. He has a mastery and knowledge of the equipment that is second to none. Truly, Jason’s ears are so sharp, I’m convinced he can hear ghosts of missed notes from sessions recorded back in the 1940’s.

In addition to the classics getting their glow-up, I started laying down preliminary guitar and vocal tracks for a brand-new original called Journey. The chords have been playing in my ears and vibrating my soul for several years now. I actually had to wait for my guitar skills to catch up to my ears, as I could hear it so clearly in my head. Only recently did I finally master them, and I can finally put the song together as I have always heard it.

I also scheduled a follow-up session to bring back into the studio the amazing Rachel Fuhrer on drums. She was the rhythmic mastermind behind my track Golden Moment and quite possibly part wizard herself. Rachel always finds a way to land right in the pocket—like she’s got a GPS for groove. I have no doubt she’ll give Journey a heartbeat that will resonate with us all.

We’re aiming for a late April release, just in time to soundtrack your Earth Day, Spring Break or your general existential crises about turning another year older. Either way, get out your crystals and/or your walking shoes because Journey is coming, and she’s bringing music that will stir your SoulePhix for a long, long, long, long time.
